Since Hurricane Sandy struck the Eastern Seaboard on October 29, the Modest Needs Foundation (www.modestneeds.org) has heard from thousands of low-income workers living in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut who are now facing tremendous financial hardship due to the impact of the storm on their homes and/or places of business. The Modest Needs Hurricane Relief Program will help low-income workers impacted by the storm to afford one month's rent or mortgage payment as they work to get back 'on their feet,' up to a maximum of $1,500.00 per household.
- A single mother of two, Wanda Santiago of Bordentown, NJ lost an entire week’s pay because her place of business was closed due to power outages. Modest Needs helped her pay her rent.
- The college where Denise Hill of South Orange, NJ works was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Classes were cancelled for an entire week and she lost her paycheck. Modest Needs helped this single mom with her rent.
Modest Needs will make these special grants to qualified persons immediately and on a first-come, first-served basis until the need for this program no longer exists, or until funding for this program is exhausted.
For more information on qualifications for applicants, please see the press release below. Modest Needs Foundation President Dr. Keith Taylor is available to speak more about this program. Please contact me at 914-461-4360/ am@getredpr.com to set something up.

As you might or might not know, a few days after Hurricane Sandy struck, Time Warner Cable deployed free mobile device charging & WiFi stations in hard-hit areas of the NYC/NJ area. The stations help affected residents do things like charge up their cell phones, use our WiFi Internet and laptops & iPads to stay in touch with loved ones and do things like file insurance claims. People are also using our charging stations to charge up cordless drills & saws, log onto work email so they can work remotely. We even helped charge an eldery lady's power wheelchair so that she could go out and vote and visit her doctor. These powering/WiFi stations are still out helping people morning through dusk.
Beginning today, we are also deploying mobile food trucks that will serve free comfort food to affected residents & volunteers. A schedule of the food trucks is attached.
As most people are listening to the radio for storm recovery updates and places to go to for food & shelter, it would be simply AMAZING if your station can do a quick announcement about the availability of these food trucks and mobile charging/WiFi stations. As most people have smartphones nowadays, we are providing updates of locations on our Twitter page (@TWCable_NYC) and Facebook page: Facebook.com/TWC
To make it easier for you, here's a suggested on-air announcement:
"As part of New York City's recovery efforts, Time Warner Cable is serving complimentary warm food to affected residents and volunteers in areas of Staten Island, Brooklyn, and the Far Rockaways in Queens. Also available are power charging stations & WiFi stations for those without power. Visit their Twitter page @TWCable_NYC or Facebook, Facebook.com/TWC for locations."

Donate to the Red Cross. All donations will provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by the storm. To donate, visit www.redcross.org, call 800-Red-Cross or text the word "Redcross" to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
Nearly 100 Red Cross blood drives were canceled because of Sandy, so blood supplies are low in the areas affected the most. The Red Cross asks that those who can donate to schedule an appointment to give blood. The New York Blood Center is urging people to donate blood for those in the New York/New Jersey area. To donate, call 800-933-2566 or visit www.nybloodcenter.org.
People can also call 211 for locations.
